High Heels
Both women and men have been styling their heels for centuries. The start most likely was in the 1500's when heeled boots were necessary to keep feet from slipping out of riding stirrups. At the same time, Catherine de Medici, Queen of France, used 2-inch heels to stun the royal court and compete with her King's taller mistress. The wealthy and royal were soon wearing them, giving rise to the term "well-heeled".
